Man Remanded In Prison For Allegedly killing Neighbour Over Missing Chicken

A 38-year-old man identified as Idowu Ajewole, has been remanded in prison custody by a Magistrate’s Court in Akure, the Ondo State for allegedly killing his former neighbour, Monday Bassey (28), over a missing chicken.

The accused was alleged to have killed Bassey at 3pm on December 12, last year. According to reports, a disagreement ensued between the duo, who were flatmates at Adebowole Street, Oke-Aro in Akure, when Ajewole allegedly found some of his missing chicken’s feathers in Bassey’s belongings when they were packing out of the house.

Ajewole, who informed the police about the theft, allegedly killed Bassey when he pushed him into the police van.

Police prosecutor Pelumi Adejuwon alleged that the suspect made the deceased hit his head on the floor as he pushed him inside the police vehicle. Adejuwon concurred that Bassey died as a result of an injury he sustained when he fell.

He told the court that Ajewole’s action was responsible for the victim’s death.

The prosecutor noted that the offence is contrary to and punishable under Section 316 and 319 of the Criminal Code. The final judgement is however yet to be passed as of the time of filling this report.
