Hillary Clinton Concession Speech: "our nation is more deeply divided than we thought. But I still believe in America."

Democratic presidential candidate, Hillary Rodham Clinton has given her first address following the outcome of the United States presidential election at which Republican nominee, Donald Trump emerged victorious.

Hillary Clinton was introduced to a group of
supporters in New York for her concession speech, by her running mate at the election, Tim Kaine.

Clinton confirmed calling Donald Trump to congratulate him on his victory and expressed the hope that he would be a successful president while also expressing her readiness to work with him on behalf of the country.

“This is not the outcome we wanted or we worked so hard for and I am sorry that we did not win this election for the values we share and the vision we hold for our country,” Clinton summed her disappointment at losing the poll.

She was honest with her supporters, admitting the pain of losing the opportunity of becoming America’s first female president, at least for the next four years.

“This is painful and it will be for a long time,” Clinton said.


The Democratic Party candidate appreciated the party for nominating her, describing the ticket as the greatest honour of her life even though she noted that the campaign was both unruly and energised.

Earlier in the day, there were reports that Clinton supporters marched across some cities and burnt flags while mouthing anti-Trump slogans. To that group, Hillary Clinton has a word of advise:

“We have seen that our nation is more deeply divided than we thought. But I still believe in America and I always will. And if you do, then we must accept this result and look to the future.”

The former first lady thanked outgoing American President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle. “Our country owes you an enormous debt of gratitude,” she said.

In rounding off her concession speech, Clinton urged women not to despair but rather keep fighting for what is right and that “someday someone will shatter the glass ceiling hopefully sooner than we think.”
