Student Commits Suicide Over Change of Course

A nursing student of the Ashanti Mampong Nursing and Midwifery school in Ghana has committed suicide, allegedly over a change of course handed to her by the school.

Bertha Frimpong, 21, had reportedly applied for the General Nursing programme at the institution, but the school gave her Nursing Assistant (Clinical) instead.

The change had sparked a bout of depression which culminated in her taking her own life,
myjoyonline reports.

Bertha drank a dose of a poisonous substance believed to be DDT, which led to her death. She had complained of stomach pains and was rushed to the Mampong Government hospital, later transferred to Komfo Anokye, where she died.

A suicide note she left behind read: “Lord please forgive me, everyone, I didn’t deserve to eat the fruit because of my ungratefulness, please forgive me, everyone.”
