Labourer Bags 2 Months For Attempted Theft

A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja on Monday sentenced a 22-year-old labourer, Labaran Babangida, to two months imprisonment for attempting to steal.

The presiding judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, however, gave the convict an option to pay N5, 000 as fine.

Sadiq advised the convict to desist from committing crimes, adding that the sentence would serve as deterrent to other offenders.

Babangida, who resides at Jabi Garage, Abuja, was convicted on a count charge.

The convict, who pleaded guilty to the charge, urged the court to temper justice with mercy.

Prosecutor Zannah Dalhatu had told the court that Windy Eyo of Eda Plaza, Jabi, reported the matter at the Utako Police Station, Abuja on Aug. 8.

Dalhatu said that the complainant reported that on the same date the convict entered the plaza with the intention to steal.

The prosecutor said that the offence is punishable under Section 95 of the Penal Code.
