We Didn't Ban Olamide And Davido's Songs - NBC

Contrary to earlier reports that the National Broadcasting Commission had banned the airplay of five Nigerian songs because of its negative content, the regulatory body has come out to make it clear that the news is not true.

The commission while making the clarification said that it never gave the order for five of the songs by some elite artistes in Nigeria to be banned.

Some people had felt that the a recent reaction from the Federal Ministry of Health condemning the music video of Olamide’s new song could have motivated insinuations about the alleged ban.

The ministry had a few days ago and described the content as contravening the Tobacco Control Act of 2015. The National Broadcasting Commission revealed that the news on the alleged ban came from a fake website linked to the ‘Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation.’

Spokesman for the commission, Antia Ekanem, stated this in a text message to Punch in Abuja on Tuesday night said many were deceived by people who tried to use the name of the commission to forment trouble.

“What you saw on that website was fake. It is not from the NBC. What you saw there is ‘Nigeria Broadcasting Corporation’ and not the ‘National Broadcasting Commission,” he said.
