My experience on a commercial bus on a typical busy Lagos working day really left me asking questions if the nonpayment of transport fair by Nigerian force men is a right, privilege or social responsibility.
Now here is the little gist, while on the way to our various destinations, the bus conductor as usual requested for the payment of transport fair which all passengers on the bus graciously handed over to him except for one man on mufti seated pretty close to the driver who created a scene when he frowned his face and said “I am a staff”. The concerned driver and conductor chorused “staff of where, pay money joor” as they knew not the man.
The controversial man in question brought out his wallet but refused showing his ID as expected instead he started threatening to force the driver to drive into a police station for no offence. Lolzzz….!!Trust Lagosians now, virtually all the passengers on the bus sprang into the rescue of the driver and conductor as they rained insults and abuses on the man. Out of shame and disappointment, the controversial police officer decided to pay and alight before getting to his bus stop. Other passengers could not help but laugh out loudly as the man brought out his phone and started snapping the plate number of the bus while laughing sarcastically and shaking his head.
Now, this brings us back to my question; is the nonpayment of transport fair by Nigerian force men a right, privilege or social responsibility??
