Man Beats Landlord To Death Over Electricity Bill In Lagos

The Ondo State Police Command yesterday arrested one Tope Akideji for allegedly beating his 75-year-old landlord, Kayode Osunkalu, to death over the electricity bill of a two storey building located at No 17, Ayeferere, Street in Ondo.

According to Vanguard, the deceased had reportedly invited all tenants to discuss how they were
going to settle the electricity bill which had been brought by the Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC. During the discussion, an argument over the settlement of the bill ensued between the suspect and the landlord when he gave an ultimatum that all tenants should contribute their share within 24 hours. The suspect was reported to have complained about the ultimatum and when the landlord replied by insulting him, the suspect began to fight with him.

Other tenants intervened and tried unsuccessfully to separate them, only for the suspect to punch the elderly man who then slumped. The landlord was  immediately rushed to the state Specialist Hospital in Ondo town where he was later confirmed dead.

The Chief Police Superintendent Kunle Omisakin confirmed the incident and stated that the suspect has been transferred to the homicide section for further investigations.
