Adamawa state Governor Nyako impeached, deputy governor resigns

Adamawa State House of Assembly members this afternoon July 15th impeached the state governor, Murtala Nyako, following a report by a 7-man investigative committee that probed allegations of gross misconduct and financial impropriety against him. The report, which was read by the State Assembly Speaker Umaru Fintiri on the floor of the House, found the governor guilty of all the 16 allegations of gross misconduct. 18 members of the Assembly then signed a resolution removing the governor. The House then passed a motion that the Speaker, Umaru Fintiri, should be sworn in as the state’s acting governor. According to reports, that will be done by 4pm today. Meanwhile, the state Deputy Governor who was also investigated by the panel, had resigned his position earlier in the day in a letter he sent to the House of Assembly which was read by members and immediately approved.
