Harassment? Woman to be jailed for sending greeting card to her neighbor

A woman was arrested, charged and convicted of harassment after sending a greeting card to her neighbor, prosecutors in Minnesota said.

Now, the woman of Moorhead, has been sentenced to 90 days in jail with all but two days suspended.

65-year-old Sharon Lavonne Rousseau, was convicted by a Clay County jury of one count of harassment in the face of a restraining order.

The restraining order was issued in the Clay County District Court after a difficult long history of discord between the woman and her neighbor.

Rousseau, who lives on the 1100 block of South 5th Avenue, began fighting with her neighbor over a fence. After
being issued a restraining order, the defendant sent a greeting card to her neighbor.

The woman’s attorney however, claimed that sending the card did not cause any damage to the neighboring family, and therefore should not be considered harassment.

A judge sentenced the woman to serve 90 days in jail. However, all but two days of the sentence was suspended. Rousseau was also sentenced to a year of supervised probation.
