Parents Fights Over Right To Kill Their Daughter

A family is trying to get permission to kill their daughter who is suffering from cancer.

The parents of the Shaanxi Province, China, want to end their four-year-old daughter’s life, to stop her from suffering.

The girl was diagnosed with retinoblastoma, a rapidly developing cancer of the retina.

When the child has been diagnosed about two years ago, the family took her to several hospitals, including doctors at the Beijing Tongren Hospital, who specialize in ophthalmology.

All doctors agree that his illness is incurable.

A while back, the child had her left eyeball removed in an operation, but the
cancer cells continued to spread and a large malignant tumor started growing on her cheek.

The girl’s father said that the family cannot bear to see her suffer anymore. “We hope to find a hospital to admit our daughter, decrease her pain and help her leave this world peacefully,” he said.

Mercy killing is prohibited under the current law, although recent studies have shown that over two thirds of people in the country have a tolerant attitude towards the practice. (WWWN)
