Police officer arrests man for refusing to give him parking space

A man filed a lawsuit against a police officer for arresting him because he refused to hand over his parking space, according to court documents in Florida.

Clausel Pierre said that the incident unfolded when he stopped at a shoe store in Deerfield Beach.

As he was exiting from his car, an off-duty Broward County police officer demanded that he hand over his parking space.

After refusing, the officer arrested him.

Pierre is suing the police for illegal detention, physical pain and compensation for years of legal headaches to clear his name.

According to the court documents, Detective Frank Maio allegedly tried to park his
vehicle at the shoe store where he worked as a security guard.

However, Pierre took the parking space first, and when he refused the officer’s request to move out of the way, he was arrested.

Pierre, who could not believe that he was being arrested for simply getting a parking space, tried to resist. Maio responded by repeatedly striking Pierre, putting his life in danger and causing serious injuries.

Maio also accused him of assaulting a peace officer and resisting arrest with violence. After being booked and jailed, Pierre fought the charges against him for the next two years.

Eventually, the charges were dropped
