Lagos State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Dr Obafemi Hamzat recently revealed at a press briefing in Ikeja that Dangote Group is showing interest in the capital intensive fourth mainland bridge project. Dr. Hamzat also raveled other plans on the proposed project.
Read his words below:
“A lot of people have heard about Fourth Mainland Bridge, so we did a survey to establish the right of way; we looked at various options, the option that seems best for us has, I think, four kilometers of bridge on the water.
"Unfortunately, when we started the survey and enumeration, a lot of people have built unbelievable number of buildings, I think people were speculating the bridge is coming and the demolition that we have to do will affect about 69 buildings and the amount of compensation will run into billions so we have to look at another alignment all-together.
"Also, we are looking at the Lekki Free Trade Zone and the Dangote Petroleum Company that are
coming up, so which one makes sense for us to build.
"The idea of the shift in alignment is to avoid the massive demolition that will take place so that we can save those buildings and I won’t shed light on the specifics of the alignment now so that people won’t start building again but basically the work is ongoing, even Dangote is interested so we are moving,”
Nice one
