I Went To Steal The Church Offering But Ended Up Stealing Musical Instruments - Suspect

A 26-year-old man identified as Cheka Samuel, who allegedly burgled a church, has confessed to the police that he went to the church to steal the offering and when he did not find any money in the box, he stole their musical instruments so he could sell them and make some money.

Members of the Soul Fishers Assembly church raised alarm after they discovered that their church had been burgled and all their musical instruments have been carted away in Ajao Estate, Lagos.

A search for the missing instruments led to the arrest of Samuel after the church identified him as the
prime suspect. He was then handed over to the police at Ajao Estate Division.

During interrogation, Samuel allegedly confessed that he was the person that burgled the church and stole the musical instruments. He also revealed that he had no intention to steal the instruments but was compelled to do so because he did not see any money in the offering box.

The police recovered the stolen items which include, 16 channels mixer, base and amplifiers whose monetary worth could not be immediately ascertained.

Samuel was charged before Isolo Magistrates’ court with stealing under the Criminal Code and he pleaded not guilty. The presiding Magistrate, Mrs Joy Ugbomoiko granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

Samuel was however remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri pending when he bail conditions are met. The matter was adjourned till 27 August, 2015.
