Chair Used By Harry Potter Author To Pen Novels Sold For $394,000

A chair used by Harry Potter author J.K Rowling whilst penning the first two novels of the uber popular series has been sold at auction for a huge price.

The chair sold for $394,000 at an auction held in New York City Wednesday, shocking even the auctioneer, who did not anticipate such a price.

The chair, a relic from the 1930’s, was part of a set once given to J.K Rowling, then a little known writer, for her flat in Edinburgh.

She then went on to pen the bestselling novels, using the chair for the first two books- Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

The chair is accompanied by a signed letter, which reads…

“Dear new-owner-of-my-chair / I was given four mismatched dining room chairs in 1995 and this was the comfiest one, which is why it ended up stationed permanently in front of my typewriter, supporting me while I typed out Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. / My nostalgic side is quite sad to see it go, but my back isn’t. / JK Rowling.”

Rowling auctioned off the chair for charity in 2002, and the current owner, who just auctioned it off, said he’ll donate ten percent of the proceedings to that same charity, as a sort of nod to Rowling.

Like seriously? How much would my Naija people buy this Harry Potter chair?
