Just like Augusta Uwamanzu-Nna who made headlines last year, another Nigerian teenager is drawing positive attention after receiving 8 acceptance letters from the 8 Ivy league schools she applied to.
Ifeoma White-Thorpe, a senior at New Jersey’s Morris Hills High School, has now been accepted to Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Columbia, the University of Pennsylvania, Cornell, Brown, Dartmouth and Stanford.
According to her, she was shaking when she clicked on her final acceptance letter. “I was like, oh my gosh, oh my gosh, like this might be eight out of eight and I clicked it and it said ‘Congratulations’ and I was like oh my goodness!” she said.
Ifeoma stated that she initially planned on going to Harvard after getting into their early action but getting accepted into 8 Ivy league schools has left her undecided. However, she made it clear that wherever she winds up, she plans to study biology and pursue a career in public health.
White-Thorpe, who ranks high in her advanced placement classes, also served as president of her high school’s student government.
In 2015, the teenager was named one of two winners in the National Liberty Museum’s Selma Speech and Essay Contest, for her video on equal educational access, freedom and racial justice.
