The Brazilian has been branded an “awful human being” and a “hypocrite” after he dismissed Astori’s death by saying ‘children die every day’.
Asked about his reaction to the tragic news that the Fiorentina captain was discovered dead on Sunday morning having passed in his sleep aged 31, Alves showed a distinct lack of emotion from players, managers and supporters who have been paying tribute to the Italian international, Sun writes.
“We were not disturbed too much because we did not know him very much, I am sorry for his family,” he said.
“I think that Davide has done what he owed in this chaotic world and that now he is in a better world.
“But in the world every day thousands of children who do not receive much attention die of hunger and they are just as important.
“We all have to die sooner or later because we are passing through.
“Maybe we are sad, but certainly not like his family.”
And the Brazilian’s comments have not gone down well with the football community, as fans have quickly taken to Twitter to slate the ex-Barcelona man.
