A man has been arrested amid claims he inadvertently talked to police about getting high and using a drug dealer after “butt dialling” them by mistake.
Police said Grant O’Connor, 25, was unaware the phone in his pocket had dialled 911 and an operator overheard him talking about getting high and using a drug dealer.
Officers in Mount Pleasant, Tennessee, reacted to the “butt-dial” – when a person’s body applies pressure to a phone in their pocket, initiating an accidental call.
They traced the call to Don Pepe’s Mexican restaurant, where O’Connor and a
friend were seen leaving by car.
According to WKRN News, officers stopped the car because of a broken tail light, found marijuana and drug paraphernalia under the passenger seat and arrested him.
Local police chief Michael Hay admitted the arrest was, “Really bad luck and also some really good police work.”
O’Connor was charged with possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia.
The driver, who said she didn’t know the drugs were in her car, was not charged.
