“Today makes it three years since we won the final of the 2013 AFCON at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa. That night is one I will never forget in my life.“
“I was a green horn with little experience at the senior level, but I remember how your love and support served as a motivation for me to step up to the occasion.
“The mere thought that we had over 170 million of you rooting for us got us to play the final with every drop of energy we had in us.
“I want to use this medium to appeal to us all to look back at the events that led to us lifting the trophy three years ago; a high level of uncertainty, loss of trust from our fans due to poor performances, the resolve of a young team to succeed irrespective of the low expectations, one nation standing behind a team and finally, winning the AFCON against all odds.”
“We must learn lessons from three years ago. We are currently building a young team with lots of potentials to better previous achievements set by our loving Super Eagles in the past. We need all hands to be on deck to support us as we continue on this path,” he continued.
“Things may not look rosy now, but we assure you we want to make you happy. We recall how happy you all felt the last time we won the AFCON and we have resolved that with your support we want to recreate even greater and happier memories for you as a way of saying thank you.
“Thank you for all the support you have given us in the past, thank you for all the support you are giving us right now and thank you for all the support you will give us the next time we turn out to represent our beloved Nigeria on your behalf.
“For we do this not for the love of self, not for the love of money and not for the love of fame and fortune, but for the love of our nation.”
