Someone Is About To Auction The Missed Penalty Ball That Led To Messi’s Retirement

Messi missed the first kick in the shootout between his country and Chile at the Copa America Centenario final, skying his shot horribly over the bar into the crowd, where a Chilean fan, Pedro Vazquez got his hands on it.

Guess what? Vazquez is now set to auction the ball. He claims he’s doing it for safety reasons, since people know he has the ball, so he plans to sell if the value of the ball keeps
rising.

In Vazquez words:

“The truth is that if the ball becomes any more valuable, it would be a risk to have it in my house”.

“I could sell it, but it would depend on the circumstances. It is nice to have the ball, but if it keeps rising in price, I’ll sell.”

If the auction goes ahead, Vasquez could get as much as $30,000 for the ball.
