The Senate has stopped the ban order on the importation of used vehicles into the country through land borders given by the Federal Government as it says the Nigerian customs should show capacity in managing our border and enhance capacity to stop illegal movement of vehicles.

The motion was moved on the floor of the senate by Sen. Jibrin Barau and for other co-sponsors
namely: Sen. Kabiru Gaya, Sen. shehu Sani, Sen. Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, Sen. Ali Wakili.
The decision to stop the order of Government was given today during plenary on Wednesday. The Federal Government had last year announced the ban on the importation of used vehicles, popularly known as tokunbo, through land borders. The implementation, through the Nigerian Customs Service, was to become effective on January 1, 2017. However, a grace of three months was granted for those who must have placed their orders to complete the clearing process.‎
